2007 NWPA Conference Summary

The second annual NWPA conference was held July 29 – 31, 2007 in Vancouver, Washington.  Over 113 attendees including 25 exhibitors participated in the three-day conference.  Attendees came from all over the US and Canada.  The theme of the 2007 Conference was “Raising the Bar,” in terms of both growing the NWPA as an association, and also raising the standards of professionalism within the region.  The conference offered 13 sessions covering topics including customer service, transportation demand management, pedestrian safety, access management, graphics and wayfinding, PCI compliance, parking pricing, and sustainability issues.  Attendees took advantage of over seven hours of dedicated exhibiting time, as well as participating in tours of the Portland International Airport facilities and the Oregon Health and Science University, which included a breathtaking ride on Portland’s aerial tram at 3,300 feet!  Social activities included a networking reception, a casino night and the annual golf tournament.

The conference agenda consisted of sessions, shop talks, exhibitors, networking, tours, and an IPI Customer Service Training Workshop led by Kim Jackson, Executive Director of the International Parking Institute.  The opening session allowed attendees to meet the City of Vancouver’s Mayor, Royce Pollard, and also learn from keynote speaker, Dennis Burns*, who spoke on “Integrated Parking and Transportation Systems for Communities and Universities.”
